FAQ
Q: What are the Physics Tutor Center (S-105) hours? What
are the Open-lab (S-107) hours?
A: Monday thru Friday, 8 AM to 5PM.
Q: I can't log in to the physics computer . . .
A: The best thing to do is to find Yalan Shang (Physics
IA) immediately!
Q: Can I attend another lab section if I miss my regular
one?
A: Yes, but you must check with your instructor ASAP.
Such a practice is to be used only when unavoidable circumstances
arise. A phone call or email to your instructor will suffice.
Q: My lab partner did not show up for our agreed-upon time
for working in the Open Lab. What do I do?
A: Try contacting your partner first (exchange cellphone
numbers or other contact info). Try to find another 2A group to
join for the day. Try to locate me, and If I'm not available, see
Yalan. If this happens more than once, find a new lab partner and
I can help you do this. I will deal with such unreliable partners
severely.
Q: Do I have to turn in hardcopy of the MasteringPhysics
homework? How do my homework scores get recorded?
A: No, you do not have to turn in hardcopy. When the due
date and time occurs, your last saved score is automatically recorded.
Q: Is there any way I can have more time to complete my
MasteringPhysics homework?
A: Yes, but with the specified penalty.
Q: I'm at home (45 minutes from school) working on MasteringPhysic
and I have a small question. Is there any way I can get some help
without having to drive all the way to campus?
A: Yes! You can call or email me. I try to check my phone
and email at short and regular intervals. You might also try your
lab partner or other classmates. Such relationships with classmates
can be very effective.
Q: I did really bad on my first exam. Should I drop this
class?
A: The drop date is not until mid-November. Don't forget
that you get to drop one test and there are many opportunities for
help. Have you considered using the Physics Tutor Center or spending
some time with me for extra help?
Q: Hey! I looked on the website to check my grade and there
is a mistake. What do I need to do?
A: See me ASAP. Be warned that scores will not be changed
unhless the original papers are produced in evidence so keep all
your returned papers. We try to be perfect around here but, alas,
we are human too!
Q: Do you accept late lab reports?
A: Yes! There will be a 5 point late penalty deducted
from your score though, and late reports will only be accepted for
one week beyond the due date.
Q: Can I take a makeup exam or quiz if I cannot attend the
scheduled test? How about taking the test early?
A: No! and No! See your class syllabus.
Q: Are we doing anything important in class today?
A: Always!
