Description | The apparatus is designed for generating large electric charges by induction. The small jets of water pass through the cylinders into the metal cups below. The cylinders and cups are cross-connected as in the picture. a small charge on the cylinder induces a charge of the opposite sign in the jet of water passing through it. The charge on the water is collected by the cups and conducted to the cylinder surrounding the other water jet. This induces an increased charge in the water stream on that side with the result that the charge on the cylinders rapidly builds up through the cross-connectors to large values and of opposite signs. |
